The Cast

Cast On:
On Monday, April 6, Ella Super-Manned off the counter while brushing her teeth. Initially we thought she would be fine, but when she couldn't hold hands to "Gather in a Circle" before family prayer (a favorite around here), we knew she was really hurt. We spent that night in the emergency room - and sure enough, she fractured her left humerus. The ER tech set the splint too tight, so fortunately Heather (left) an ER doctor at Stanford and Vanessa, a Stanford Med School recent grad, did house calls and took care of us.
When Ella woke up (in our bed) the morning after she saw her good arm and said:
"Look Daddy, it's all fixed!"
Moments later, she realized her left arm was still broken and set in the splint. She started crying and pleaded for us to "take it off!"
Then on Friday, April 10th, the "hot pink cast" was set. Ella was very proud and showed off her "special arm" to any and all.
Cast Off:
Three weeks later, Friday May 1st, the cast came off!

We prepped Ella on the cast saw and she was fearless as they removed the cast. However, once the cast was off Ella got really upset. Her first words, between tears, were:
"I want a purple one!"

I am so sad to hear that she broke her arm...I did laugh when she wanted a purple one though. Karha said a similar thing after the third time. Except she wanted the cast on her leg. She had already had one on each arm.
